DrawBridge Murals

Canal Community Mural: DrawBridge's Canal Community Mural Project is the first permanent outdoor mural in the Canal District of San Rafael. Located just outside the DrawBridge office, the mural is approximately 20' x 8' and its theme celebrates the spirit of community and unity in the culturally rich neighborhood.

Under DrawBridge's artist-in-residence, Salifu Mohammed of Ghana, and in collaboration with the Canal Alliance, young people from the Canal are given opportunities to directly contribute something beautiful, powerful, and lasting to their own community through art.

The Canal Community Mural Project will culminate in a large-scale block party, to celebrate the mural's unveiling, with food, music, and dancing. Our deepest thanks to The San Francisco Foundation, Garth Neil of Habanero Ventures, and Fernando Quezada of Quezada Market for their generous support of our community.

Beatriz, a high school student who participates in the Canal Alliance's after school program, has contributed greatly to the mural project. From its very beginning to the present, Beatriz has taken on a leadership role in the mural's progress.

Minh, age 15, has been painting with DrawBridge for five years. He has also taken on an active role in the mural creation. Minh said, "DrawBridge is my second family. No one can take that away from me."
